World day of Social Justice observed on 20February worldwide

20th of February is being observed as World Day of Social Justice. It is observed every year to encourage people to look at how Social Justice  affects poverty eradication.Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations.

The theme of this years' World day of Social Justice is : “Closing the Inequalities Gap to Achieve Social Justice”

 History Behind


  • World day of Social Justice was first observed in 2009.

  •  The International Labor Organization unanimously adopted the ILO ( International Labor organization) declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization on 10th June 2008. This is the third major principle and policies adopted by International Labor conference.
  • On 26 November  2007, the General Assembly declared that 20th of February will be celebrated annually as the World Fay of Social Justice.

 The International Labor Organization

The International Labor Organization is United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance Social justice and  promote decent work bi setting International Labor standards.Its headquarter is in Geneva, Switzerland, and it was founded in 1919. The incumbent director general of  ILO is  Guy Ryder.
