21 National award winners awarded on National science day by president Ram Nath Kovind

The 28^th February  was celebrated as the national science day throughout the country . It is observed  every year. The national science day is observed to commemorate the discovery of the “ Raman Effect’ by the Indian scientist Sir CV Raman who also got also noble prize in Physics in 1930.

Awards

President sri Ram Nath Kovind presented awards to the national award winner for science communication and popularization including women excellence awards for meritorious women scientists. There were total number of twenty one award winners. The president awarded SERB women Excellence Awards , Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research ( AWSAR) Awards, national science and technology communication awards and National Award for Young Woman Showing Excellence though Application of Technology for social benefits.

Key points

On that occasion, president announced three key initiatives for gender advancement and equality in Academic and Research Institutions. They are GATI, Vigyan Jyoti, Online portal for S&T resources for women. GATI ( The Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions) initiative aims at developing framework for assessing the gender equality in STEM( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).Vigayan Jyoti aims at creating standard fields for the meritorious girls in high schools . Online portal aims at providing woman specific government schemes, career counseling, scholarships and various related supports.
