Sun Yang, China’s triple gold medalist in Olympic swimming, has been found guilty of refusing to give a doping sample and banned for eight years in an eagerly-awaited judgment from the CAS on Friday. Sun is one of the China’s most recognizable athletes who had already served a doping ban in 2014.
The Swiss-based CAS upheld the appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) against the international swimming federation (FINA).

This  28-year-old swimmer  is one of the China's top athletes, having won two gold medals at the 2012 London Olympic games and another in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Sun also won a gold medal in the 200m freestyle at the 2019 World Aquatic Championships in South Korea.
Sun Yang is a Chinese Olympic and world record holding competitive swimmer. In 2012, Sun became the first Chinese man to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming. Sun is the first male swimmer in history to earn Olympic and World Championship gold medals at every freestyle distance between 200 and 1500 metres. A three-time Olympic gold medallist and eleven-time world champion, he is the most decorated Chinese swimmer in history.

  • The Court of Arbitration for Sport is an international quasi-judicial body established to settle disputes related to sport through arbitration. Its headquarters are in Lausanne and its courts are located in New York City, Sydney and Lausanne.

  • The World Anti-Doping Agency is a foundation initiated by the International Olympic Committee based in Canada to promote, coordinate and monitor the fight against drugs in sports.
  • Its headquarter is in Montreal Canada and founded on 10th November 1999.
