Maharashtra takes step to end single use plastic by May 1

The Shiv-Sena led government will make Maharashtra single-use plastic free  by May 1. This announcement has been revealed by the Environment Minister of Maharashtra Aaditya Thackeray in legislative council on Friday

In 2018, the Maharashtra Government had imputed a ban on manufactured, use, sale, distribution, and storage of plastic equipments that one time use bags, spoons, and plates among others.

Noticable points


  • The government has also fixed the buying rate at Rs.15 per kilogram under buy-back policy of plastic items from conservancy workers.

  • Ban on plastic bottles can not be accomplished as clean drinking water is still not available across the state.

  • The self help groups will be given RS.5 crore to induce cloth bags,that has revealed by the Maharashtra Government.

  • The used plastic bags will reused in road repairs. Around 7% of plastic is being used for building roads.
