International Day of Action for Rivers
On 14 March, 2020, 22nd International Day of Action for Rivers has been celebrated. It is a global event to celebrate our freshwater ecosystems and campaign for their conservation.
 This day is celebrated globally to raise voice against the destructive water development projects, health and sustainable management of the watersheds. 

International Day of Action for Rivers

Earlier this day was known as International Day against Dams, for Rivers, Water, and Life. International Day of Action for Rivers was first held in March 1997 in Curitiba Brazil.All the countries have started different projects to protect rivers against destructive dam projects. India also started different projects for the conservation of rivers or against dam construction. The Narmada Bachao Andolan was one of them.
Last year near about 100 women from 32 countries raised their voice and provided their efforts to protect and rescue rivers.

Theme

The theme of International Day of Action for Rivers 2020 is “Women, Water, and Climate Change”.
