Government has successfully installed 10 lakh
smart meters across India under the Government of India's Smart Meter
National Programme (SMNP). R.K. Singh, the Union Minister of State for
Power, New & Renewable Energy, has announced that.
The smart meters will start its operation in Bihar,
Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The first step towards realizing Smart Grids is the
implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The Smart Meter
National Programme is being implemented to deploy smart meters across the
country.The programme is being implemented through Energy Efficiency
Services Limited (EESL).
The Smart Meter National Programme aims to replace 250
million conventional meters with smart meters.
The Minister commissioned 100 MW decentralized solar
power plants connected to agriculture feeders in Maharashtra.
A glance on EESL:
- Energy Efficiency Services Limited is an energy service company of the Government of India and is the world's largest public ESCO. It is 100% government owned, a joint venture of state-owned NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and POWERGRID.
- EESL is promoted by the Ministry of Power Government of India as a Joint Venture of four reputed public-sector undertakings - NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation Limited., REC Limited, and POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited
- EESL was launched on 10th December 2009.
- Rajeev Sharma is the incumbent Chairman.
- Saurabh Kumar is the Managing Director.
