India - Portugal Relations in Various Sectors

Portugal president's visit to India brought 14 agreements

Portugese president with Indian P.M
 India and Portugal signed 14 agreements to boost cooperation in a range areas includingdefense,investments,transport,ports,cultureand industrial and intellectual property rights and yoga. The agreements were signed after immense talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa in New Delhi.

The locations and about the Trip

Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa reached in New Delhi on a four days visit. It is his first visit.
The visiting dignitary was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rasgtrapati Bhaban Saturday morning. Portuguese president also visited Rajghat and paid tributes to "Father of Nation" Mahatma Gandhi.

Agreements signed during the visit 

  • Agreements for cooperation for setting up a National Maritime Museum Heritage Complex in Lothal(Gujrat) between Portuguese Ministry of Defense and Indian Ministry of shipping.
  • Contract between Economic and Food Safety Authority and DPIIT, Ministry of commerce or co-operation in the field of industrial and intellectual property rights.
  • Joint Declaration on India and Portugal Mobility partnership.
  • Agreement between We-Hub-Telangana and PARKURBIS Covilha for Exchange women start up Entrepreneurs.
  • Agreement between VEDA Defence and UA vision for production of drones
  • Agreement between TERI-DEAKIN centre, Gurugram and International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) Braga for co-operation in Nano-biotechnology.

More About

The president of Portugal is accompanied by Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Professor Augusto Santon Silva, Secretary of State for internationalisation Professor Eurico Brihante Dias and Secretary of staSt for National Defence Jorge Seguro Sanches. President Ram Nath Kovind also met the Portugal President later.
