Dhanushkodi is about to get A 50 metre high lighthouse


Dhanushkodi , a dream island
Establishing the foundation stone for the 8 crore project at Dhanushkodi near Rameshwaram in Ramanathapuram was done by the minister of the state (I.C) of shipping Mansukh Laxman Mandaviya. It will be the 5th lighthouse in the Ramanathapuram district after Pasipattinam, Olakuda, Pamban and Keelakarai.

The features of this lighthouse

 Dhanushkodi lighthouse tower will have an annexure building for power supply, auxiliary, equipment room and others important improvements. Light implement on the tower will have a range of 18 to 20 nautical miles (33 to 37 km) to facilitate navigation. The Coast Gaurd will monitor the data round the clock. The light house is to be located opposite to the old church that was destroyed in a Cyclone in 1964.

Importance

The lighthouse will help to guide fishermen and will also conduct as tourist facination. The lighthouse is also significant for the naval commands. There are four Naval Commands namely Western Naval Command, Eastern Naval Command, Southern Naval Command and Andaman and Nicobar Naval Command.

Key Points

The project will cost 8 Crore rupees. A Radar will be fixed at the top of the lighthouse to enhance the surveillance process of the Indian Navy. It will help to guide fishermen who goes into the deep sea.  It is also going to be a tourist attraction. The lighthouse is the most important for naval commands. This lighthouse at Dhanushkodi comes under the jurisdiction of Southern naval command . The INS Rajali and INS Agrani naval station will be greatly felicitated by this lighthouse.

Rameswaram

Rameswaram is a town on Pamban Island in the southeast Indian state of Tamilnadu. This city is well known to the world for Ramanathaswamy temple, a hindu pilgrimage site with ornate corridors, huge sculpted pillars and sacred water tanks.  The devotees bathe in the water of Agni Theertham, off the beach east of the temple.
