National war memorial observes first anniversay on 25th February 2020


National War Memorial
The first anniversary of the Iconic National War Memorial (NWM) has been observed on 25 February. The National War Memorial is a monument built by the Government of India near India Gate, New Delhi, to honour the Indian Armed Forces. Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and veterans from the three services will lay wreaths and pay homage to the fallen soldiers.The first anniversary was commenced on 22 February 2020 with a static band display by the three Services.

The memorial is spread over 40 acres of land and is built around the existing canopy near India Gate, at a cost of around Rs.176 crore in a record time of one year.
National War Memorial has names of 25,942 soldiers martyred after Independence engraved who lost their lives protecting India during the Indo-China War in 1962Indo-Pak Wars in 1947, 1965 and 1971, and Indian Peace Keeping Force operations in Sri Lanka and the Kargil Conflict in 1999.
The innermost structure of the National War Memorial (India) complex, called the Amar Chakra (Circle of Immortality). The other structures in the entire Memorial complex are the Veerta Chakra (Circle of Bravery), the Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) and the Rakshak Chakra (Circle of Protection).
The architect of this Memorial is Yogesh Chandrahasan, WeBe Design Lab, Chennai.
