Zero Discrimination Day is observed on 1 March. It is celebrated to give the right of everyone to live a full and productive life—and live it with dignity.

Zero Discrimination Day highlights on how a people can take  a movement for change. And the day also promotes diversity.

The symbol for Zero Discrimination Day is the butterfly.

Background 

The day was first celebrated on March 1, 2014,and was launched by UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe on 27 February of that year with a major event in Beijing.

The day is particularly noted by organisations like UNAIDS that combat discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS.

India's Initiative 

Indian celebrities this day to speak against 

laws that make discrimination against the LGBTI community more likely, especially Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises homosexuality.

About LGBT:

LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. The term is an adaptation of the initialism LGB since 1990s, which was used to replace the term gay in reference to the LGBT community beginning in the mid-to-late 1980s.

The theme of Zero Discrimination Day 2020, is about challenging the discrimination faced by women and girls in all their diversity in order to raise awareness and mobilize action to promote equality and empowerment for women and girls.

We need to celebrate this day because 'Diversity' is a precious resource and accepting and embracing it brings greater benefits to our society. No one should be discriminated against for HIV status, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, language, geographic location or migrant status, or any other reason. so this day is celebrated every year for mass awareness to uproot this dark site of society.
