Pilot Shopping Festival is planned by Ministry of Textiles in Bengaluru

Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani has announced a Pilot Shopping Festival in Bengaluru. The miniver will be held in 2020-21. The event will subsequently be taken to other Indian metros.

Pilot Shopping Festival

  • This miniver will focus on various sectors like gems & jwellery, textiles, handicrafts, and yoga and Ayurvedic products.
  • The  Textiles Ministry has been promoting hand loom textiles, especially Khadi, as part of the Union Government's "Make in India" campaign which aims to increase domestic production across a range of sectors and increase India's exports.
  • The products to be displayed will include tribal products/handicrafts, products from Jammu and Kashmir, North East States and other Hill States.
  • The Minister of Textiles aims to enhance the handloom products in online. The Ministry has engaged with 23 e-commerce platforms and plans to continue to worth with them to promote and retail "Made in India" goods on their respective platforms.
  • Total scales of RS. 80.76 crore have been reported through the online portal.
